What is this treatment used for?
Vaginal rejuvenation is an effective non-surgical alternative for treating vaginal atrophy, or ageing of the vagina. This can affect women reaching menopausal age, and also younger women.
Symptoms include thinning of the vaginal wall, loss of elasticity, decreased blood flow and lubrication, dryness and itchiness, incontinence, a burning sensation, irritation, discomfort during sexual intercourse and a higher occurrence of UTIs.
This condition can have a negative impact on relationships and self-confidence, and can affect patients on both an emotional and physical level.
How is this treatment performed?
We are able to effectively treat these symptoms with a non-surgical laser treatment, which can be administered in approximately 10-15 minutes depending on the patient’s requirements. Treatments should be spaced out 4-6 weeks apart.
A laser is inserted into the vaginal opening so that microscopic beams of light can be projected onto the walls of the vagina to treat the tissue and mucosa. Over the next month there will be increased regeneration of collagen and growth of new tissue to make it tighter and stronger. Volume and elasticity of the walls will also be restored when the mucosa starts to rehydrate.
What are the benefits of this treatment?
Benefits of vaginal rejuvenation include an increase in collagen production underneath the skin, and restoration of elasticity and blood flow.
By stimulating collagen production, the vaginal walls become rehydrated and tissue function is restored, leading to improved sexual intercourse, reduced or no discomfort, and greater self-confidence and quality of life.
What can I expect after treatment?
Some patients may experience slight swelling, discomfort or redness following treatment, but this usually disappears within a few days.
Results can be noticed within a few weeks after the first treatment once the area has healed and rejuvenated, and will continue to improve over the course of the treatments.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required depends on the severity of the symptoms and varies from patient to patient. Generally 1-2 treatments are recommended for tightening, and 3-5 treatments for targeting vaginal atrophy and associated problems. A maintenance program is then recommended every 12 months.
